A very nice selection of Norwegian fairytales (all of the magical kind), made especially attractive by the striking illustrations of Kay Nielsen. Nielsen's style marries late 19th-century fairytale style to fine art influences from the likes of Beardsley, and the result is often very stylistic and epic, lending the tales a mythological weight here and there. A pity this volume, adequately translated into Dutch, only contains a selections of the complete tales and illustrations.
