Hi, I'm Odile, a historical linguist from the Netherlands who also likes to write about music, games, and history. Check out my longer blog posts and other writings on Sub Specie.
Tree: A Life Story is my current toiliterature — try to guess my other name for this bookshelf — and it's very enjoyable so far. I expected a rather romantic book, but it's heavier on the popular science aspect than I had presumed. Pleasantly surprised about that, in any case. Suzuki and Grady weave in a lot of tidbits about the origins of life on earth, biology, ecology, and the like, all hung up on the idea of telling one Douglas-fir's life story. I'm only a quarter of the way in, but it's good to dredge up some of that basic biology, plus lots of things I never learned in school.
