Collected Ghost Stories (Wordsworth Mystery & Supernatural) (Wordsworth Classics) - M.R. James Excellent mysterious and suspenseful ghost stories that have been of profound influence to later writers in the genre, with Lovecraft as perhaps the most appropriate example.

The stories are well-written, though perhaps not very accesible for non-native English speakers, as the style is quited learned.

James' influence remains strong in alternative culture of today, with experimental artists like English Heretic and The Triple Tree drawing from the well of his occult tales, such as "Oh Whistle and I'll Come to You My Lad" and "A Warning to the Curious".
